The Chancellor of Dominion University, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, has urged the federal government and the security agencies in the country to tackle insecurity before the 2023 general elections.
Adelakun, who is also the Presiding Bishop, Victory International Church, Worldwide, made this disclosure while addressing a press conference held at the institution’s campus along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway on Thursday.
DAILY POST recalls that gunmen recently kidnapped some travellers along the Lagos- Ibadan expressway.
Adelakun has, however, advised the federal government and security agencies to live up to the expectation.
The cleric while addressing the journalists said that election cannot hold when there is insecurity.
He noted that all efforts must be put in place to address growing insecurity in the country.
Adelakun, while speaking on efforts to tackle insecurity along the road, said that Oyo State Command of Nigeria Police Force is coordinating the various universities around the area to build a police post that is central.
He appealed to residents to desist from raising false alarms on the road.
He, however, explained that the road is now safe, because it has been fortified by security agencies.
Adelakun said, “Talking about the Federal Government and security, what is the role of a government? Number one is to maintain peace and order. Now in Nigeria, the South-West is the safest. The Federal Government must live up to expectations. The nation is preparing now for the election.
“Can an election hold in the midst of insecurity? Absolutely no, so, I want to charge those at the helm of affairs to rise up to the occasion, especially the men and officers of the various security outfits. With the cooperation and commitment of the executive at the federal level and the legislature, it is possible.”
