The Government of Ondo has suspended the operations of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) with immediate effect.
The government has also ordered taxi drivers to return to the old N50 cost per decline.
Doyin Odebowale, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Responsibilities and Policy, made the announcement while addressing journalists in Akure on Monday.
Odebowale attributed the suspension to the recent dispute in the unions over the leadership chaos.
He instructed both NURTW and RTEAN to clear motor parks across 18 local state government areas and to avoid raising money from taxi drivers and other motorists.
Odebowale, who also instructed taxi drivers to return to the old N50 price, clarified that new tickets must be bought directly from the government.
He said that any effort to make life tough for the masses would be restricted, adding that security agencies had been told of timely arrest and prosecution of the defaulters.
