Microsoft’s Theatre in Los Angeles graced American Music Award for the year 2020 on Sunday with Actress Taraji P. Henson hosting the event. Covid-19 rules in place were observed, hence there were a lot of live acts and a handful of spectators in the Theatre with the Hostess.
Shawn Mendes in collaboration with Justin Bieber opened the event, both with their new singles. Shawn sang “Monster” while Bieber sang “Lonely” and “Holy.”
Country Singers Dan and Shay, The Weekend, and Taylor Swift were the top awardee winners, collecting three Trophies respectively.
Dan and Shay’s “10,000 Hours” in collaboration with Bieber secured duo awards namely: best country song and best country duo.
Despite swift not present at the event received Artist of the year, the best music video for “Cardigan” and best female pop/rock artist was awarded to her.
The Weekend was awarded best male soul/R&B artist, the best album of the year for “After Hours” and the best song for “Heartless”.
best new artist of the year and best female soul/R&B were awarded to American Rapper, Doja Cat.
The occasion also marked the first appearance of Katy Perry since giving birth to her first child. Katy in collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, Darius Rucker, and Lil Baby performed “Only Love”.
