A gang specialised in stealing children between the ages of 2 and 3, using cookies and candy as baits, has been clamped down by the Abia State Police Command. On Friday, December 11, the syndicate was shattered by the new security outfit, Rapid Response Squad, RRS, founded by Janet Agbede, CP Commissioner of Police, Abia State.The police chief, who paraded the kidnappers at the headquarters of the department, claimed that the kidnappers were arrested at different locations.He clarified that after the children of one Mrs. Happiness Monday and Mrs. Rejoice Ikechukwu, both of Umuochialla village in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State, was kidnapped, the police detained them.
“The women reported to the Police that their children, Master Marvelous Monday, aged three years, and Master David Ikechukwu aged three years respectively were abducted by unknown persons.”
Operatives of the State Rapid Team, RRS, headed by its Chief, SP Johnbull Obioguru, swung into action based on the complaints.
“The investigation resulted in the arrest of Chinonso Slyvanus aged 17 years from Umuochalla in Osisioma Local Government Area at his hideout in Owerri, the Imo State capital and Ekene Duru aged 31 years from Ariaria by Umuochalla, Osisioma who was arrested in his hideout at Enugu, Enugu State.”
After the RRS operatives detained Chinonso Sylvanus and Ekene Duru, they called their buyers one Rose Okoro aged 45 years from 5 OPM Avenue Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Ngozi Ukpai aged 38 years from Igwurita, Port Harcourt, who purchased N200,000 for each of the abducted children from them. When Ngozi and Rose arrived at the meeting point to get the kidnapped girls, men from the Rapid Response Squad rounded them up (RRS).Both women admitted that at the cost of N200,000 they purchased the kidnapped children from Chinonso Sylvanus and Ekene Duru and sold the children at the rate of N450,000 to one Chidi Okoro who operates a clinic called Prostel Hospital, formerly known as God’s Favour Hospital and Osisioma Maternity Umuode.
