Dr. Stephen Ukenna, a professor in the Department of Business Administration at Covenant University Ota, Ogun State, has been arrested by the police for reportedly raping a 17-year-old girl at the institution.
The 41-year-old lecturer was arrested after the victim’s parents filed a report with Ota Area Command.
According to reports, the parents informed police that their daughter told them over the phone that the professor assaulted her in his room.
According to the daughter, the perpetrator welcomed him to the office under the guise of a surprise birthday party for her thrown by a neighbour.
According to them, when he arrived at the lecturer’s office, he closed the door and had sex with her on top of the table in his office.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman for the Ogun Police Command, told reporters on Tuesday that upon receiving the complaint, Area Commander Ota, Acp Muyideen Obe, quickly dispatched his squad to the campus, where the lecturer was promptly detained.
“On interrogation, the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim, but was unable to give any reason for his action,” the police publicist quoted him to have said.
He claimed that the perpetrator had been immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation by the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun.
