The Government of the State of Adamawa has ordered the closing of all schools with immediate effect. The order, issued by the State Ministry of Education, came to light on Friday, when Aisha Abubakar, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, said the closure would take place immediately. “The Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development wishes to direct and announce the immediate closure of public and private schools in the state,” she said. The Ministry gave no explanation for the closing of the schools, which prompted many to relate it to the demands of COVID-19, but when contacted, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, attributed it to the Christmas and New Year festivities. “It is to encourage school kids to go home early for the Yuletide and New Year festivities. “The schools are due to resume for the second term on Monday, 11 January 2021,” Wonosikou said.
