Salihu Yahaya, former assistant to former governor of Adamawa state Boni Haruna, was brought before Upper Area Court III in Yola for allegedly calling his former wife, Maryam Tabah, an adulterer.
Maryam Tabah accused her ex-husband of lying to her that she had become an adulterer after they had been divorced. She believed that Yahaya, with whom she had been married for 19 years, had defamed her by accusing her of adultery and telling everyone that he had sent her packing because she was sleeping with a young boy whose name she called Adamu Buba Bazza.
Maryam further revealed that after their marriage had been dissolved on 4 January 2021, Yahaya had called her friend Sa’a Luka, telling her that she had divorced her friend on the grounds of infidelity.
The ex-chief protocol to the former governor of the state did, however, make a non-guilty submission through his lawyer after he had been indicted for diffamation.
His ex-wife, however, insisted that his actions amounted to a diffamation of character punishable under Section 378 of the Adamawa Criminal Code.
