Unknown gunmen allegedly abducted the priest in charge of St. John’s Catholic Church, Obinomba, in Delta State’s Ukwuani Local Government Area on Monday night.
The priest, simply known as Rev. Fr. Harrison, was said to have been abducted about 8 p.m. while returning to base from Warri in his Highlander Jeep in Oria-Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
According to observers, the kidnappers fired sporadically into the air to scare away passers-by at the scene of the action while also avoiding potential resistance.
According to reports, the abductors dumped the cleric’s car at the site of the incident before whisking him safely.
According to a member of the local vigilante community who spoke with journalists about the attack, even though they heard frightening gun shots from the kidnappers, they couldn’t fight the hoodlums with their’shoot and run’ weapons.
A vigilante said, “It looked like they came to fight a war.”
“We have so far picked about 15 shells which are bullets from their AK-47 gun.”
Policemen from Abraka Division later raced to the scene of the incident, apparently with a view to strategising on a possible rescue mission for the abducted cleric.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Edafe Bright, could not be reached as if the time of filing this report.
