Vincent Harrison Chukwuemeka, a serial Facebook hacker, was sentenced to one year in prison without the option of a fine by Justice Agatha Okeke of the Federal High Court in Uyo for impersonation and obtaining N407,000 by false pretence (Four Hundred and Seven Thousand Naira).
According to an EFCC statement, Chukwuemeka falsely identified himself as Lisa when pretending to be a representative of Facebook and WhatsApp from the United States of America through the African Head Office. Under that guise, he reportedly defrauded one Felicity Felix Ekpezu of the aforementioned amount, as he (Chukwuemeka) tricked her (Ekpezu) into thinking she had earned $971 (Nine Hundred and Seventy-One United States Dollars) and an iPhone 6s, which she needed to reclaim for N407, 000.
According to the statement, he was arraigned on a one-count accusation of impersonation and receiving N407, 000 under false pretence. He originally pled “not guilty” to the crime, but changed his plea to guilty after the trial and refunded his victim the money he fraudulently received from him.
At today’s resumption of proceedings, the court sentenced him to one year in prison starting from the date of his conviction, with no choice for a fine.
