In the battle against insecurity, former military President of Nigeria, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has urged the government to provide soldiers with new equipment and adequate training.
This was confirmed by IBB in an interview with BBC Hausa on Sunday.
The former Head of State also said that he still advises the government on the subject but does not make a public statement about it.
In terms of whether our policymakers are playing the desired role in putting an end to instability, IBB stated that there are several issues that need to be addressed.
“If they agree to sit down and think over, I believe success will be achieved,” he said.
On soldiers, he advised: “Provide them with all they require and let them know this is their country, they have no other better than this.
“They also need to be trained on how to use the modern weapons, not to get weapons and just hand over to them. They should be trained.”
