Istifanus Musa, a 25-year-old farmer from Kaduna State, was remanded in a correctional facility on Tuesday by a Kafanchan magistrates’ court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps charged the suspect with rape in violation of Section 289 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law (NSCDC).
Mr Marcus Audu, the NSCDC prosecutor, told the court that the matter was referred to the corps’ office by the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Kafanchan on November 18, 2022.
According to the prosecutor, “The accused person lured the girl into his room at Mabushi, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the State and forcefully had sex with her.”
Michael Bawa, the presiding Magistrate, said the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter and thereby did not take the accused person’s plea.
The case has been adjourned to 12th December, 2022, and the file has been forwarded to the State Director of Public Prosecution.
