In his final hours as US president, Donald Trump awarded rapper Lil Wayne a full presidential pardon.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced in November that Wayne faced a federal firearms charge linked to an altercation at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport in December 2019.
In December, he pleaded guilty and was faced up to 10 years in court.
However, earlier this week, the White House issued a statement on Wayne’s parole and acknowledged the rapper’s contribution to charities as a justification for the pardon.
Taking to Twitter today, Lil Wayne thanked Trump writing:
I want to thank President Trump for recognizing that I have so much more to give to my family, my art, and my community. I also want to thank @bradfordcohen for working so diligently to secure another chance for me. Love! – Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.
Lil Wayne tweeted a selfie he took of Trump days before the 2020 presidential election and appeared to be supporting Trump.
