Mexican doctor hospitalised after receiving COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer.

More than 126,500 people died of COVID-19 in Mexico City.
The Mexican authorities said they were investigating the case of a 32-year-old female doctor who was hospitalised after administering a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

The specialist, whose name has not been released, was admitted to the public hospital intensive care unit in the northern state of Nuevo Leon after seizures, trouble breathing, and skin rash.

“The initial diagnosis is encephalomyelitis,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement issued on Friday night. Encephalomyelitis is an inflammation of the brain and spinal cords.

The Ministry added that the doctor had a history of allergic reactions and that there was no evidence from clinical trials that anybody had experienced an infection of the brain after the use of the vaccine.

Pfizer and BioNTech could not be contacted for comment immediately.

More than 126,500 people died of COVID-19 in Mexico City. The nation started administering the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines to health staff on Dec. 24.
