Former Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi has left Stoke City to join Kuwaiti Premier League team Al Kuwait SC.
Mikel Obi has signed a one-year contract extension that would keep him at the club through the 2021-22 season, according to his new deal.
Last season, Al Kuwait finished third in the Premier League, trailing Al-Qadsia and Al-Arabi.
Mikel Obi will not be the only African talent at the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium, as he will be joined by Morocco’s El-Mehdi Barrahma, Tunisia’s Ahmed Akaichi and Rami Bedoui, and Mali’s Abdulwahid Sissoko.
Meanwhile, Stoke City recently activated the contract extension option to keep the former Super Eagles captain following his impressive performances in the English second division last term.
Mikel returned to England last August after he terminated his contract with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor over a disagreement regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
