NeNe Leakes’ husband, Gregg Leakes, died of colon cancer Wednesday, Page Six can confirm. He was 66.
“Today, the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife NeNe Leakes,” the couple’s rep said in a press release.
The statement continued, “We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family and allow them to mourn in private during this very, very difficult time.”
After news of Gregg’s passing, Bravo host Andy Cohen and “RHOA” star Cynthia Bailey sent their condolences on social media.
NeNe, 53, revealed over the weekend that Gregg was losing his battle with cancer, saying, “My husband is transitioning to the other side.”
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum was flooded with supportive messages from her former Bravo co-stars upon hearing the heartbreaking news.
Gregg was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2018, which went into remission after he did six months of chemotherapy. But in June, things took a turn for the worse, with NeNe confirming that his cancer had returned.
“I’d love for everybody to pray for Gregg. That would be beautiful. Pray for his strength,” she said at the time, adding, “And pray for me too.”
NeNe and Gregg first married in 1997 but divorced in 2011. They remarried in 2013. They shared a 22-year-old son, Brentt.
Shortly before his father’s death, Brentt shared an emotional message on Instagram that read, “Spend time with your loved ones every chance you get. Time is so…valuable dog. I can’t express it. I’m learning the hard way watching my dad fight every day. Please go create memories with ya people.”
