Nigeria Education and Strike: Decision yet to be reached; consultation on-going – ASUU

 Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disclosed that consultations are on-going for further action concerning the FG’s offer to end its 8months strike.

He said this on Tuesday in a conversation with the newsmen, that the union will get back to the government as soon as their consultation ends.

Ogunyemi said;

”We have what the Government is offering and have transmitted the same to our members nationwide and we are consulting on what the next line of action will be. You know a tree does not make a forest and our union is democratic in nature and practice”.

“As for how long consultation would take, I cannot but it may go beyond this week. Whatever we decide on is definitely going to in the interest of the nation, the interest of our children, the interest of our members, and the good of all”.

He said the pledge FG made to pay ASUU the revitalization fee of 30bn, Earned allowance 40bn a total of 70bn, their agreement to pay arrears of the lecturers before December 31, to exempt ASUU from( IPPIS) Interested payroll and personnel Information System, pending the approval of the proposed payment system, University Transparency and Accountability solution.

On that note, both parties will be meeting on Friday for feedback on the previous negotiations.
