The President of the Nigerian Guild Editors (NGE) Mr. Mustapha Isah, has said that NGE the umbrella body of All Nigeria Editors’ Conference (ANEC), will hold this year’s annual flagship conference on Thursday 26th November 2020.
Before now, the annual conferences used to be a Three-day programme, done in different State capitals, with participants(veterans and new members), from across the country addressing the challenges facing the media.
Isah said, this year will be different, the edition will be VIRTUAL (via zoom), and will be a one-day programme.
This adjustment was done owing to the outbreak of coronavirus, and that the Guild is committed to being compliant with COVID-19 rules.
He said the theme for the year’s conference is:
“Every year, members of the Guild physically gather under one roof to brainstorm on national issues including the state of the media, but this year, as thought-leaders and agenda-setter, we have decided to model our conference in tune with the exigencies of the moment hence the decision to make it a one-day event.” The President said.
ANEC 2020 will be the 16th series. The VIPs of the conference are as follows Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf, the chairman of the Media Trust Limited, as the Chairman of the event, Publishers of Daily Trust Newspapers among other publications. Also Yusuf, a member of the International Press Institute,(IPI) a recipient of many awards.
Mr. Steve Nwosu, the Chairman Planning Committee, said the 2020 edition is basically a capacity-building session. He said a fellow Guild and the Founder/Director, of the Journalism Clinic Lagos, Mr, Taiwo Obe will give the Keynote Address.
Mr. Nwosu in his remark said the choice of this year’s conference is intentional. Because the Covid-19 pandemic has ravaged the Media industry. The theme will help the industry create content, build aesthetics that have more value so as to deal with the distressed media industry.
” This informed choice of the theme and the keynoter by the Planning Committee. We hope members of the Guild would maximize the opportunities that this year’s special edition of our ANEC presents to us”. Nwosu said.
