Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, responded to a video of influential Islamic cleric Sheik Gumi, who allegedly accused non-Muslim soldiers of being involved in illegal activities.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Gumi has been heard as saying
“What I want you people to understand is, soldiers that are involved in most of the criminalities are not Muslims. You know, soldiers have Muslims and non-Muslims. The non-Muslims are the ones causing confusion just to ignite crisis.”
Reacting to this, Sani stated that referencing soldiers according to their religious affiliation is a condemnable act. He added that it is toxic and divisive, as the security challenges in the country demands a united action and national solidarity.
The former lawmaker tweeted;
Referencing our soldiers as Muslims or Christians is a condemnable act.Its divisive & toxic.The security challenges in our country demands a united action and national solidarity.Sowing the seeds of religiosity in the minds of our troops on the frontlines is noxious & dangerous.
