Soldiers are accused of killing five youths at Bassa village in Taraba State’s Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.

According to the Daily Trust, the young men were on their way back from a wedding ceremony in Garin-Baka about 12 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, when soldiers on patrol mistook them for kidnappers and reportedly opened fire on them.

Isah Umar, a Taraba State University student who managed to run, told the publication that he and his friends were riding motorcycles back to their village of Basa when they came across the troops.

Umar said that on sighting the convoy of their motorcycles, the soldiers opened fire on them. He escaped into the bush but his friend Habu Yerima who conveyed him on his motorcycle was not lucky as he was allegedly hit by a bullet and died instantly.
