Nigeria is due to collect £4.2 million recovered from the associates of jailed ex-Delta State Governor James Ibori.
On Monday, the country’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, announced this.
Malami also stated that the Federal Government is working diligently to insure the recovery of stolen Nigerian properties kept outside of the country’s borders.
According to the statement, often when a nation moves money, it can take a little longer than usual due to paperwork.
He said that once the Ibori loot is obtained and authenticated, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as well as other related government departments, will keep the general public informed.
He also mentioned that the Federal Government of Nigeria is in contact with the government of the United Kingdom about the situation.
“Documentations with the banks in different countries often take longer than anticipated. We anticipated two weeks but we are not in control of the banks.
“There is neither complacency nor any delay as efforts are being made to ensure successful transfer of the looted funds,” he said.
