The United States of America has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to lift Nigeria’s Twitter ban.
Samantha Power, the current head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is a prominent American official and senior diplomat.
On Wednesday, Power said on her verified Twitter account, “There are nearly 40 million Twitter users in #Nigeria, and the country is home to Africa’s largest tech hub.”
“This suspension is nothing more than state-sanctioned denial of free speech and should be reversed immediately. #KeepItOn.”
The Federal Government through the office of the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had banned Twitter last week.
It also threatened to prosecute citizens who continue to use the micro-blogging platform.
