Three Nigerians are rescued by the Spanish coastguard aboard a ship sailing from Lagos.

Three migrants stowed away on a ship arriving in the Canary Islands from Nigeria were rescued by the Spanish coastguard.

On Monday, the coastguard shared a photograph of the trio on Twitter.

They can be seen sitting on the rudder of the Althini II, an oil and chemical tanker.

The vessel arrived in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria after an 11-day trip from Lagos, according to Marine Traffic.

The authorities confirmed that the migrants were taken into the port and attended to by health services.

The Canary Islands is a famous route for African migrants attempting to reach Europe.
