After the departure of the former Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and others, a rejoicing took place at the naval base.
On Tuesday, President Muhammad Buhari named Rear Admiral A. Z. Gambo as the new CNS.
Others included Major-General Leo Irabor – Chief of the Security Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru – Chief of the Army Staff; Air-Vice Marshal I. O. Amao – Chief of the Air Staff.
Others, aside from Ibas, were eventually retired Chief of the Defense Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of the Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Air Staff Chief, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
In a viral video, hundreds of Naval personnel were in the spirit of celebration as they laughed, skipped and embraced each other.
It was gathered that officers and men of the armed forces all over the world were happy to hear news of the withdrawal of ex-military officials.
Citing security issues, most Nigerians, including stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ruling, repeatedly urged Buhari to suspend the Chiefs of Operation.
In July 2015, the Nigerian leader appointed the Quartet.
Former Senator Rufai Hanga said in December that Buhari declined to let them go because he was afraid of a coup.
